‘Bharwa’ in English means to ‘fill’. This particular recipe is inspired from my mother in law’s Sindhi kitchen.  The best part of being married in a cultural community different than my own was that I was suddenly being introduced to these unique and new combinations of existing spices to prepare signature dishes.  One such spice mix that left me wanting for more is the blending of roasted chickpea flour with traditional whole spices to prepare a filling for sliced eggplants, okra, potato etc.. Each time I visit India, my MIL bids me farewell with a jar of this mix as a parting gift

Best used to fill

Bitter gourd (karela), eggplant, potatoes, okra, bell peppers

Cooking Instructions

  • Slit vegetables and fill it with the Sindh Bhurwan blend before cooking.
  • WeMixx tip: add diced onions, tomatoes and green chilies  along with the blend as a filling

Chickpea flour (Besan), Sesame seeds (White til), Dry Mango (Amchur), Jaggery (Gur), Desiccated Coconut, Dry Red Chillies (Kashmiri chilies), Coriander Seeds, Cumin, Turmeric, Pink Himalayan Salt

I love this mix. It’s just the right amount of flavor and on the milder spice level. Being a vegan, this helps me with my protein intake and great for losing weight in a healthy manner.

  2. Komal

Loved the sindh bharwa mix. Had been craving bharwa my mom makes but I wasn’t sure if it will come out right and involved more work. This blend made it super simple and delicious. Loved the output. It’s yumm.

  3. Thomas Monroe

We wanted to cook stuffed mushrooms and eggplants and this spice really elevated our recipe. The aroma and after taste truly gave our dish another level of flavor. I love how one blend can be used across so many recipes.
